My Saint

I have got the best Saint ever, my mother-in- law is amazing. Not only has she taught me to sew and knit but she is there at the drop of a hat. Our anniversary was Thursday the 10th and the weather was nasty so we didn’t get to go any place. Matt was plowing so we decided to go out on Sunday instead. Julie took the girls to Sunday school then to see Grandma Jan. Again the weather did not cooperate and Matt was called out to sand. Yesterday the weather was great so we decided to sneak away for dinner and a movie. We had just sat down with our bread when my cell rings, it is Comet’s school nurse calling to tell me she is sick. I did get to talk to her and she said that she would be alright to finish the remaining 3 hrs of school. We thought we were in the clear, after placing our order the nurse calls again and says she needs to go home. I crossed my fingers and called Julie’s cell thinking maybe she would have it on. It rang and rang so we had just to cut our loss and go home. Just as we were about to get on 81 my cell rings it is her and she said not to leave that she would go get Comet.

Thank you Julie for always being there when we need you.

Cold and sunny

Well the wind has stopped only to be replaced with the bitter cold. This is the first day in the past week or so that Matt has not received a phone call at 3am asking him to come in and plow. He is going to take advantage of this and sleep in. Then he has a basement to fix, along with a window. The other night the wind blew out one of my window panes, that window is old so I had plastic on it, We wouldn't have known the pane was out if not for actually seeing my black cat Cloe trapped in between the plastic. I'm glad I wasn't the one to discover this my husband was, it was hilarious.I went out side to inspect the damage and there on the snow sat the pane in one piece.I have started my Christmas cookies. I am going to make one of my husbands favorite cookies.

Double Chocolate Cookies
Yields: about 9 dozen

1-1/4 cups butter softened
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla

2 cups chocolate chips(12 ounces)

1. cream butter and sugar until smooth, beat in eggs and vanilla. combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Mix well then add chocolate chips.
2. drop onto greased cookie sheet bake @ 350 for 8-10 minutes. let sit for 2 minutes, then enjoy!

Hold onto your hat!

Wow what a windy day, my day started off at 3am when the power went out for the first time only to come back on. I went down stairs to check the time so I could reset the alarm for my husband. Just as I was settling back into bed it went out again. This time I went down stairs to grab my husband’s cell so he had an alarm. At 4am the phone rings and my husband is called into work. Matt is a snow plow driver so in the winter time he is on call 24 hrs. It is now 9:30pm and he is sound asleep, he was home with us for 3hrs today in between shifts. Long enough to have our 4 year anniversary dinner. I watched the news to see just how high the wind got today 45 mph can you believe that.

With my power out for most of the morning I had nothing better to do than knit. I started a pair of socks for my mother. These socks are little different from the other 15 or so pairs I have made. Mom doesn't like the high cuffs she is an ankle sock lady. I will be putting up the pattern later next week

Happy knitting!

My first entry

So I have been discussing starting my own blog with my mother-in-law, and she talked me right into it. I will be putting up my latest knitting projects as well as my sewing. I also can’t help but discuss what my 2 lovely little girls are up to.

My mother-in-law taught me how to knit three years ago, I love it. I also sew but knitting is my passion. I can do it with my eyes closed heck, I bet I do it in my sleep. I have done so much knitting this summer. I made homemade slippers for everyone in my family for last Christmas. After the first of the Year I started on this years presents. I started off with leg warmers, where I live these are regular attire, After that I started on a back pack for my 4 yr old Missle. I was taught how to cable that was fun 2 hats and a scarf later I moved on to socks. After 23 pairs I started on wash cloths these are my favorite knitting project. My husbands great-grandmother gave theses out as Christmas presents for ever from what I was told. She passed away last November so my mother-in-law and I decided to keep this tradition going.

Knitted wash cloths

For this project you will need:

1 skein of wash cloth yarn (Peaches & Cream )

Size 8 knitting needles

Cast on three
row 1: knit across
row 2: slip 1, knit 1, yarn over, knit 1(you will now have 4 stitches)
continue to do row 2 until you get to 40 stitches
After this you will start to decrease
decrease: Slip 1, Knit 2 together, yarn over, knit 2 together

continue to do this until you have only 3 stitches remaining on your needles
cast off .

Your wash cloth should look like a square if not don't feel bad the first 3 or 4 I made were horrible. Just pull into shape, the more you make the better they will get.

Happy knitting!
